Conditions & treatments

Common gynaecological concerns, explained simply. This is general information, not a diagnosis. Every patient is assessed individually.

Areas of clinical care

Heavy periods

Periods that are heavy enough to disrupt daily life, work or sleep. We can talk through your symptoms, consider the possible causes and discuss the options that may suit you.

Painful periods

Period pain can have a range of causes. A careful conversation and, where appropriate, examination or tests can help to understand what may be going on.

Fibroids and Endometrial Polyps

Fibroids (growths in the muscle of the womb) and endometrial polyps (growths in the womb lining) can cause heavy or irregular bleeding, though some cause no symptoms at all. We can assess your symptoms, arrange appropriate tests such as an ultrasound scan or hysteroscopy, and talk through the management options for you. Where clinically appropriate, polyps and some fibroids can be removed by hysteroscopy; surgery is not always needed, and the right approach depends on your circumstances.

Hysteroscopic Management

A hysteroscopy uses a thin telescope passed through the cervix to look inside the womb. Where clinically appropriate, it can help to investigate abnormal bleeding and to treat certain problems such as some polyps and fibroids. Whether it is suitable, and where it can be done, depends on your individual circumstances and will be discussed with you.

Ovarian cysts

Many ovarian cysts are found incidentally and are harmless, but some need monitoring or further investigation. Your consultation can explain what a scan result means for you.

Perimenopause

The transition before periods stop can bring changes in cycles, mood, sleep and more. Support is available to help you make sense of what you are experiencing.

Vaginal Pessary Care

Pelvic organ prolapse happens when the pelvic organs, such as the bladder or womb, descend into the vagina. A vaginal pessary is a non-surgical option that can help manage certain types of prolapse. We can assess your symptoms, discuss whether a pessary may suit you, fit it, and provide ongoing care including routine review and replacement or changing of your pessary.

Well-woman checks

A routine check-up to discuss your gynaecological health, ask questions and review any concerns. Cervical screening can be discussed as part of this.
